Why do fireproof glass use steel profiles instead of aluminum and other profiles?
There are different profiles on the market, in addition to the more common steel and aluminum in the past, there are wood, titanium alloy, aluminum-plastic and other profiles, so why do we only use steel profiles as the frame of fireproof glass?
Wood, due to the current fireproof wood door profiles, we add fireproof panels and fireproof cotton in the cracks and middle, which can pass the fire detection, such as the fireproof wood door that our company is using, but the wood is often affected by various factors, such as water content, density, fiber ratio, expansion, etc., making the material is not stable enough and the maintenance cost is more.
Aluminum is a common profile for curtain walls, Windows, and glass doors, but why can't it be used as a fireproof glass frame profile? This is mainly due to the temperature in the fire detection furnace, which reaches 1000 degrees Celsius, while the melting point of aluminum is 660.4 degrees Celsius, the boiling point is 2 467 degrees Celsius, and the density is 2.698 g/cm3(20 degrees Celsius). Although easy to process, good corrosion resistance. However, the strength of pure aluminum is very low, and the annealing state σb value is about 8kgf/mm2, so it is not suitable for use as a fireproof product profile.
So why do we choose stainless steel? Because stainless steel is mainly composed of 18% chromium /8% nickel, the industry is commonly known as 18/8 stainless steel. The density is :7.93 (20℃, g/cm3), the melting point is :1398~1454 (℃), the hardness is :≤187HB; ≤90HRB; ≤200HV, stainless steel processing properties, high toughness, high temperature oxidation resistance, low temperature, welding performance and mechanical properties are better. The structure of the fire door and window frame must use a steel structure with a certain strength that is sufficient to ensure the integrity and stability of the components in order to isolate and prevent the spread of the fire. Therefore, stainless steel is the preferred raw material for our products.
Summary: Stainless steel is heavier than aluminum alloy, wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant than aluminum alloy, stainless steel can withstand high temperature, melting point at 1200--1500 degrees Celsius; Aluminum alloy can not withstand too high a temperature, the melting point of 500-800 degrees Celsius.
